What is Restorative Justice?
From: Restorative Justice Online
What would happen if we approached criminal justice in a more compassionate, community-based way? What would it look like? Restorative justice is a new movement within criminology which views crime as injuries to people and communities. Restorative justice programs involve the offender and all affected members of the community to jointly respond to the physical and mental injuries incurred by the crime. This report presents the theory and practice of restorative justice and offers a vision in which offenders are reintegrated into society in a compassionate, community-based manner.
