Media is a forum for robust political and social debate, or at least, that's what we would like it to be. Reflecting on the direction of media today, members of the media formed the Media Consortium, whose goal is to develop a sustainable progressive media infrastructure that can inform and influence public opinion, encourage grassroots action and create political change. Progressive media is a critical agent for social and political change and should act as an amplifier of historically voiceless communities. How does the Consortium think we should do this? After all, money and support is scarce, particularly for community-based media organizations. The Consortium believes that a broad-based movement that organizes across fields and combines grassroots activism with new media has the potential to elevate progressive voices and effect change in communities.
