What would universal preschool look like? Oklahoma can show you how successful it can be. Oklahoma offers free voluntary preschool for all 4 year olds in the state. Oklahoma's model of universal preschool has shown high achievement in school and in life for its students. Some of its features include small class sizes, with one teacher for ten students, and qualified, equitaby paid teachers. Local school districts are not required to offer this model of preschool, but are reimbursed by the state for each preschooler enrolled, with additional funding provided for children from low-income and non-English speaking households. Some states are beginning to adopt variations of this model.
