The Men's Movement of Choice
From: Men Stopping Violence
What is the future of the men's movement? Author Kathleen Carlin who works at an organization created to stop men from battering women, explores this question. She comments on the men's movement's search for a new masculinity and explains why this makes her uneasy. Because the argument is framed that men are emasculated by other men, this supports structural patriarchy instead of challenging it, and places women's issues as less important to the debate. For her vision for the future, Carlin asks men to give up all aspects of male dominance in discourse and in practice and to listen and apply women's struggles in society to themselves.
