Who should be important leaders of education reform? The teachers themselves, right? How can we provide benefits to teachers while working to improve educational systems? The Teachers Union Reform Network (TURN) believes that innovative forms of teacher compensation can catalyze improvements not only for teachers but for schools everywhere. This article suggests that compensation can take the form of school-based performance programs, establishing national teaching standards, and establishing knowledge and skills-based compensation systems.
