Dismantle Racial Isolation in Public School Education
From: ERASE Racism
How do you create racially diverse schools? This is a tough question, particularly today when communities themselves are segregated and systemic racism still exists. This article examines this question and addresses the causes and consequences of school segregation. In order to desegregate schools, neighborhoods must be desegregated. How do you this? Well, the article suggests redrawing school district lines to include both white and people of color neighborhoods. Another suggestion is to implement cross-district attendance policies. Additonally, schools must encourage desegregation inside the school. This means addressing issues with tracking and discipline. With these tools in mind, we can create racially diverse schools.
